  • If your operating system is Windows 2000, Xp, Vista or Windows 7, you should FIRST UPGRADE to ShowMan version 2.6 and then UPGRADE to version 2.8 - this is described below under 'Upgrading Showman 2.6 to Showman 2.8'.
  • Even if you are running Showman 2.6 or older in Windows 2000 or Xp with no problems, you should move to version 2.8 as described below.
  • Previous releases of Showman DO NOT work correctly in Windows 2000 or Windows Xp except in Administrator Accounts. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, older releases of Showman do not work correctly EVEN in Administrator Accounts.

Upgrading Showman 2.6 to Showman 2.8

  • N.B. The upgrade to version 2.8 is only intended for REGISTERED USERS already running Showman in Windows 2000, Windows Xp, Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • It also applies if -

    • You are intending to MOVE Showman to one of these operating systems,
    • You are moving Showman to a NEW Computer running one of these operating system
  • Even if you have already Upgraded Showman to version 2.6, using the upgrade issued in January 2009, you should REPEAT this process because the LATEST upgrade to version 2.6 from the January 2010 Download link above includes some recent important modifications.
  • Once you have upgraded to Version 2.6 of Showman you should perform the following FOUR steps IN THE ORDER SHOWN
  • DO NOT RESTORE ANY PREVIOUS BACKUPS (eg any made before running the Upgrade to version 2.6 programme) BECAUSE THE BACKED UP FILES FROM OLDER VERSIONS OF SHOWMAN WILL NOT CONTAIN ALL OF THE ADDITIONAL CONFIGURATION CHANGES THAT ARE APPLIED BY THE 'UPGRADE TO VERSION 2.6' PROGRAMME. Make a NEW backup as described in STEP a)

a) THIS STEP IS VITAL.

Start Showman 2.6 and run the BACKUP routine, and make a Backup of your Data - this is a one-click operation - you simply need to enter the DRIVE and FOLDER where the Backup will be saved.

I suggest that the folder name contains the Date of the Backup eg; D:\SManBackup 22-01-10 to make it easy for you to identify the backup.

Click 'Back Up All Sections' or 'Back Up Single Section', depending on your registration level. Consult Help or the Manual if you need more information.

For additional security, I suggest that you back up to a removable device eg USB Hard Disk or Memory Stick - I also suggest that you make TWO backups, if possible, as NO memory device is 100% reliable.

b) Open Control Panel, Add-Remove Programs, select the entry for Showman 2.6 and UNINSTALL this programme. During the uninstall process, you may get a message that a file (OLEAUT32.DLL) cannot be Unregistered - ignore this message - just click OK.

Although NOT ESSENTIAL, to keep things tidy, at this time go to C:\Program Files and DELETE any SHOWMAN 2 folder and ALL sub-folders and files. It is best to delete this stuff before step c) as this prevents you from deleting the wrong stuff. After step c) there will be a Showman 2.8 folder in C:\Program Files\

N.B. You need to be logged-in as an Administrator to delete these files and folders.

c) Download Showman 2.8 (app 18.5 megabytes).

Install it - I suggest that you use the Default path offered - C:\Program Files\Showman 2.

N.B. Version 2.8 of ShowMan will NOT install on Windows 95, 98 or Me.

d) Run Showman 2.8 and start the Restore routine. Select the DRIVE and FOLDER containing the BACKED UP files eg; D:\SManBackup 22-01-10 and click on the 'Restore Backups from BASE Folder displayed above' button.

In Showman 2.8, your Data and Configuration files are no longer stored under the Program Files folder. The Manual explains the location of these files.

Step d) could be performed under a NEWER Operating System or Machine.
